The BFG Crashing into Theaters Today! #TheBFG

BFG1

I remember reading “The Big Friendly Giant” when I was younger and loving it. As children we often dream of far off places. Places where anything can happen, where the big bad monsters are as nice as grandma. It’s Growing up with these fantasies that make childhood fun and exciting.

The BFG is that secret friend that we all wish we had growing up. Someone to protect you and hold your secrets close. Someone that gets you and listens to you. Someone that loves you no matter what. Steven Spielberg really brings The BFG to life with his new life action movie.

I don’t think I could have imagined it being any better. I loved being able to walk the magical land of the giants. I felt like I was being let in on some magical secret. The visual aspects of the movie are amazing!  I often complain that everything is 3D now, even when it doesn’t need to be. But The BFG NEEDS to be in 3D. It just makes it so much more real and beautiful.

The perfect pair

The Big Friendly Giant (Mark Rylance) and the little girl, Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) are a match mad in heaven. She follow him to his job and sees what he does a “day job”. Catching dreams and passing them along to the people of London as they sleep.  He’s able to mix the dreams and mold them into whatever he wants. The BFG reminds me of a kind sand man.

In a day and age where bullying is everywhere, it’s nice to see little Sophie stand up for her much larger friend when she see’s that he is being mistreated. When she learns of what the other giants are up too, she jumps into action.  The BFG and Sophie work nicely together. They plot out a plan to get the Queen’s (Penelope Wilton) help in riding London of the mean, man eating giants.
